Ms. Schaller's Kindergarten Telecollaborative Classroom Plan

Teddy Bear Project

March - June

This project will be perfect for my kindergarten class.  Students will be able to build interpersonal relationships with other students, while working on their writing skills. Students will be excited to have a new stuffed animal friend to take on adventures.

I hope to have students take the Teddy Bears on field trips in the beginning of the project, so that students can practice writing similar journal entries.

Holiday Card Exchange

September - January

I cannot wait to participate in the Holiday Card Exchange during the fall and winter.  This project is ideal for not only building relationships, but also learning about culture and holidays that students may not know about otherwise.  I think that students could not only exchange cards with students around the world, but as part of the project, students could also send holiday cards to soldiers or family members around the world.  I would love to use this to work on writing skills.  Students would be able to learn about other cultures, develop interpersonal skills while they enjoy receiving mail.

Folk Tales/Storytelling: Past & Present

September - June

This would be perfect for my kindergarteners who are starting to read and share stories.  The connection that students could build with elders, relatives, and members of the community would be wonderful to build and strengthen. I would love to start the year with introducing folktales and stories to the students to build firm background knowledge.

As we progress through the year, students could read stories with one another in order to build fluency and practice decoding.  During winter, students would practice recording and video taping themselves to upload.  After students learn those skills, they would meet with a preferred adult and record them reading.

Throughout the year, I would like to encorporate three Telecollaborative projects.  Each would be focused on at different parts of the year, with a focus on different skills and objectives.
